(WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.) January 21, 2025 –
Over the next year TRICARE beneficiaries in the United States are expected to see drastic improvements in the quality and accessibility of their healthcare services.
Multiple important changes went into effect on January 1, 2025, including the implementation of new contracts to improve healthcare delivery and regional realignments.
These New Regional Contracts (T-5) mean that Humana Military will continue as the contractor for the east Region, however, TriWest Healthcare Alliance will take over the West Region.
TRICARE leaders have said this is to make referral transfers between the two regions more efficient and enhance access to specialized medical care.
Six states —Arkansas, Illinois, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas, and Wisconsin—will also be moved from the East Region to the West Region. This is expected to balance the TRICARE population between regions and enhance service quality. Roughly 1.1 million eligible beneficiaries will be impacted.
Per TRICARE, some small areas in Arkansas and Wisconsin are exceptions to this change and are considered “carveouts”. These locations boarder a state where a military hospital or clinic is within 40 miles and a patient is eligible to receive care there.

No action is required, but you may forward any correspondence received by TRICARE to EMS|MC. We are in the process of certifying provider’s affected by the realignment and will confirm when the certification has been completed.
