The level of care delivered by first responders—whether during major crises, routine transports, or brief wellness checks—doesn’t depend on praise or recognition. EMS professionals show up because they genuinely care about people.
That selfless mindset—stepping into the job not for thanks, but to make a difference—is exactly what inspires EMS|MC’s mission to support EMS agencies nationwide. As we kick off the 51st anniversary of EMS Week, we’re proud to stand beside the professionals who embody this commitment every day.
From May 18–24, 2025, communities across the country will come together to celebrate EMS professionals and reflect on this year’s theme: “We Care. For Everyone.”
It’s a time not just for recognition, but for renewed appreciation of those who continue to answer the call—regardless of the hour, the challenge, or the circumstances.
A Message from Our CEO
EMS|MC CEO George Abatjoglou shared:
This EMS Week, we proudly honor the strength, compassion, and unwavering resilience of the first responders and agencies who serve as the heartbeat of Emergency Medical Services across the country.
You don’t just respond – you lead. You bring calm to chaos, comfort to crisis, and life-saving care when every second counts.
At EMS|MC, our mission is rooted in helping you answer the call. It’s what drives us every day – because when you rise to serve your communities, we’re proud to stand behind you with that same unwavering commitment.
Your work is often unseen, but it is never unnoticed. Whether responding to emergencies, reaching underserved communities, or navigating complex challenges, your dedication shows us what it truly means to serve with courage and heart.
“e’re proud to support your mission – not just through billing services, but by advocating for the sustainability and recognition you deserve. Together with our partners at PWW|AG our Advocacy team continues to fight for better reimbursement, smarter policy, and a stronger future for EMS.
This week is yours. A moment to reflect on the lives you’ve touched, the differences you’ve made, and the legacy you continue to build – one call, one patient, one community at a time.
From all of us at EMS|MC, Thank You for your service, your leadership, and for answering the call every day.
The Backstory: How EMS Week Began
EMS Week was first authorized by President Gerald Ford in 1974, recognizing the critical role that emergency medical services play in saving lives. At the time, EMS was still taking shape as a formal system, gaining traction after the groundbreaking 1966 National Academy of Sciences report, “Accidental Death and Disability: The Neglected Disease of Modern Society.”
That report revealed the urgent need for organized emergency medical care and laid the groundwork for the modern EMS systems we rely on today.
What began as a presidential proclamation has since evolved into a nationwide celebration—spearheaded by the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) in partnership with the National Association of EMTs (NAEMT) and thousands of EMS organizations across the U.S.
2025 Theme: “We Care. For Everyone.”
This year’s theme reflects the compassion and inclusivity that define EMS professionals. Whether responding to someone experiencing a medical emergency, a child in distress, or a vulnerable member of the community, EMS providers deliver care without hesitation or bias.
It also highlights the importance of recognizing those contributions—not just during EMS Week, but all year long.
Each day of EMS Week 2025 spotlights a unique focus area:
-
Sunday – Health, Wellness and Resilience Day
-
Monday – Education Day
-
Tuesday – EMS Safety Day
-
Wednesday – EMS for Children Day
-
Thursday – Save-A-Life Day (CPR & Public Education)
-
Friday – EMS Recognition Day
-
Saturday – EMS Remembrance Day
EMS|MC’s Red Cross Blood Drive
To mark the occasion, EMS|MC is hosting its second annual Red Cross Blood Drive. In 2024, our team saw an incredible response—78 individuals donated blood, directly contributing to the Red Cross’s life-saving efforts.
This year, we’re aiming even higher, with a goal of 100 donors. Alongside the drive, we’re working to raise awareness about the role of blood donation in the growing field of pre-hospital transfusions, which are helping EMS providers save more lives before patients even reach the hospital.
What to Remember This Week
As we reflect on EMS Week 2025, here are a few things we hope everyone will keep in mind:
-
EMS professionals are frontline healthcare heroes. Whether responding to a car accident, a cardiac arrest, or a natural disaster, they are the bridge between the scene and definitive care.
-
Their work is high-stakes and high-stress. EMS providers face physical risk, emotional trauma, and long shifts—all while maintaining compassion and composure.
-
Support matters. From investing in mental health resources and modern equipment to simply saying “thank you,” every form of support helps.
-
You can help. Learn CPR, support your local EMS agency, keep your medical records accessible, and teach your children when and how to call 911.
EMS Week isn’t just about saying “thank you”; it’s about recognizing EMS as a vital thread in the fabric of our emergency response system. It’s a time to honor the past, commit to the future, and ensure EMS professionals receive the respect, resources, and recognition they deserve—not just this week, but every week.
