There have been significant conversations about the future of Ground Emergency Medical Transport (GEMT) programs after the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) and the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) announced audits of GEMT program in 2023. These actions followed a memo from CMS to state Medicaid Directors in 2022.
The recent changes to GEMT reimbursement allocations in Texas may provide valuable insight into the potential direction of GEMT programs in states that currently utilize these programs, along with those with pending applications for Medicaid State Plan Amendments with CMS.
